Grant Brings Special Music to Joliet HS Orchestras

It’s one thing to read about our Meemic Foundation grants, but it’s even better to see one in action.

A small team from Meemic visited Joliet, IL, to meet Peter Lipari and hear about his grant. Peter is the director of the Joliet Township High School Orchestras, and he used his grant funding to help commission two original works in celebration of the program’s 110th anniversary.

The first, “Stone and Steel” by Richard Meyer, debuted earlier this year. More recently, The group was able to see the world premiere of “Sinfonietta” by William Hofeldt. In the video, you’ll hear snippets of both pieces, meet some of Peter’s enthusiastic students, chat with Peter and one of his students, and see some concert footage.
